Cielo Ranch Reserve has an extensive trail system through 105 acres of primary and secondary forests. Trails pass through old-growth primary forests and reforested areas that are now new areas of biodiversity. Reforestation is a key aspect of the reserve's forests and watershed rejuvenation and preservation efforts. We offer daily tours to day visitors not staying at "Casa Cielo" Jungle House. We can accommodate private small groups as well as small groups accompanied by their private guides. We only allow one group to enter the reserve daily so contact us for pricing and availability.
Cielo Ranch Reserve has been an ongoing project since 2006 and to date, we have planted over 13,000 trees. These include Teak, Melina, Mountain Almond, Ceiba, and various other native species. We also have three small lakes that provide new habitats for reptiles, small fish, owls, hawks, and migrating bird species.
We take steps to ensure that wildlife is present in the reserve by limiting the number of visitors and trail maintenance within the reserve. Wildlife generally does not like the presence of humans and generally leave the area when there is too much activity.
Some typical mammal species include Howler monkeys, White-Faced monkeys, Spider monkeys, Anteaters, Coati, Tayras, Kinkajou, Pescuente, and Wild Pig.
Bird species include Toucans, Potoo Owl, Spectacled Owl, Motmots, Kingfishers, Green Ibis, Tiger Heron, Green Heron, Northern Jacana, White Hawk, King Vultures, Red Lorred Parrots, Great Curassow, various types of Hummingbirds and the Great Green Macaw.
